Geronimo
Sadly Geronimo passed away February 6th, 2017.
Geronimo is an aged Percheron gelding estimated to be around 32 years old. He was a carriage horse in Nashville for at least 17 years. We had been working with his previous owner for a couple of months on his care, but decided the best place for him to receive his care is at our sanctuary. He arrived February 27, 2016.
Within the past couple of years he had foundered on his left front foot. Lack of regular hoof care has led to abscesses in both front feet. His hoof care needs are already underway and veterinary and dental care are being scheduled.
He is a very sweet and willing boy and we are happy to be able to give him a chance at a quality life!
Geronimo's front feet were x-ray'd and sadly he has a tremendous amount of coffin bone rotation and also sinking with part of the coffin bone missing, likely from penetrating thru the sole. He has a current abscess in his right front foot that is being treated. We are still exploring options for making him more comfortable!
He requires very soft bedding and footing material to make it easier for him to walk and he also likes to lay down often.
